William Commanda – November 11, 1913 to August 3, 2011.
No person ever has, nor likely ever will, have a greater impact on the way I look at life and act in it than this wonderful man. His journey is notable in so many ways, I’m not going to mention all of his accomplishments since a few clicks of the mouse will give credence to that. I hope a few of those who read this will take the little time needed. He is ALL OVER the internet and I was lucky enough to have known him in his sunset days.
I first met Grandfather Commanda after hearing about the Seven Prophets of the Seven Fires Prophecy Belt of which, in 2006, he was the holder.
Here is the link to the prophecy itself:
So what was it about the prophecy belt which interested me enough to call and arrange a meeting with a man 800km to the north of my home as well as driving through a cold, treacherous Canadian winter? Basically it was because the prophecy frightened me in that it warned of a terrible choice which we all have to make and, even today, it still makes perfect sense to me that it truly has come down to that.
The Seventh Fire (from the link)…
“In the time of the Seventh Fire New People will emerge. They will retrace their steps to find what was left by the trail. Their steps will take them to the Elders who they will ask to guide them on their journey. But many of the Elders will have fallen asleep. They will awaken to this new time with nothing to offer. Some of the Elders will be silent because no one will ask anything of them. The New People will have to be careful in how they approach the Elders. The task of the New People will not be easy.
“If the New People will remain strong in their quest the Water Drum of the Midewiwin Lodge will again sound its voice. There will be a rebirth of the Anishinabe Nation and a rekindling of old flames. The Sacred Fire will again be lit.
“It is this time that the light skinned race will be given a choice between two roads. If they choose the right road, then the Seventh Fire will light the Eighth and final Fire, an eternal fire of peace, love brotherhood and sisterhood. If the light skinned race makes the wrong choice of the roads, then the destruction which they brought with then in coming to this country will come back at them and cause much suffering and death to all the Earth’s people.”
During our conversation that day in Kanata, a suburb of the national capitol Ottawa, we talked about the state of North America and the world in general. Grandfather was convinced that the events surrounding September 11, 2001, was the ‘lighting’ of the Seventh Fire. Now, more than a decade later, the evidence around me is beginning to give credence to that idea.
- You can’t eat money, gold or diamonds
No-one can deny today that the our western civilization, so dependent as a consumer society, is unraveling. The economic crisis of 2008, caused by unbridled greed within global financial institutions, has plunged the world into chaos and, no matter how often politicians lowball the effects, the troubles continue unabated, even in countries like Canada (which was spared the worst).
- War, violent revolution, Orwellian population control and discriminatory policy solves nothing
What all has transpired since 9/11? Need we list how well the punishing Iraq and Afghanistan wars have gone? What have they accomplished in those areas that will stand the test of time once the foreign militaries melt away?
How about the Arab Spring? Is that bringing about peace and good governance in the short term? Who will replace Assad in Syria? Does the Arab Brotherhood have good intent or will it end in sectarian violence again? What peace has all that bloodshed bought?
Is America a safer place with Homeland Security scanning and probing everyone climbing on a plane? Have the thousands of security cameras blossoming in stores and on streets made a dent in allaying the fear of criminals and those ‘others’?
No. Not with the next bugbears raising their threatening nuclear weapons onto increasingly capable missiles. In fact, in many ways, it’s starting to feel like another October Crisis is coming to fruition. No need to mention who these threats are coming from either, but I could list a few immediately.
I won’t even get into environmental issues, but denial of climate change is now becoming a little moronic no matter how one looks at the various causes. Things are just not right with our weather and continues to deteriorate yearly. What’s it going to take before the obvious dots get connected in our collective consciousness?
The world is getting smaller every decade and our collective neighbours now have much more of an impact on us than ever before. The time has arrived to begin coming together instead of driving each other apart, which has been the norm because war is profit and feeds a greedy few. It doesn’t matter whether we are talking about the family living next door, our dysfunctional political systems, the fractious relationships between countries or religions, the time is now to either bring peace through diplomatic discourse or else. Just remember what the prophecy says about the choice we now face… time to either pick the road to peace or deal with another world war, because that scenario is definitely on the table.
- The Idle No More movement
Their steps will take them to the Elders who they will ask to guide them on their journey. But many of the Elders will have fallen asleep. They will awaken to this new time with nothing to offer.
The young have lost faith in the elders to lead them and are taking matters into their own hands. In Canada, the indigenous population is the fastest growing demographic and, to discriminate and/or ignore them is a huge mistake by our government. Politicians and the talking heads in the newsrooms think it’s all died down, but I believe that to be wishful thinking only.
Our collective well-being is in our hands and we have only a few more years to figure out how to deal with all of the above, but deal with it we must. It can all start by being aware of what is truly happening, not as to what the main stream media is telling us or how things are on only one continent, but all of them together. It’s time to consider the state of humankind, not just our own countries.
That’s what the blogosphere is all about, isn’t it?
Edit to add:
Grandfather Commanda has been honoured again 3 years after his passing:
