As long as I’ve lived in Canada, there has been no individual who exemplifies more what it means to be a citizen of this vast country than Stomping Tom Connors does.
He was a self-made man who began his career hitch hiking from place to place with a guitar strapped across his back and playing for whoever would listen in whatever place he found himself. Fame never spoiled his love for singing about the ordinary folk he’d meet along the way.
If you’ve a desire to know the Canadian soul, then all you need to do is listen to Stomping Tom at his favorite bar… the Horseshoe Tavern on Queen Street in Toronto:
Thank you for this, my fellow Canadian!
You’re welcome. I hope you watched the whole show like I did.
His songs will always be with me, just like they always were when he was alive.
